How to change your screen resolution (Windows, macOS, mobile)

Step-by-step instructions to change or fix your screen resolution on Windows 11, macOS, Android and iPhone — plus what to do when it looks blurry.

Whether your display looks blurry, text is too small, or an app set a resolution you didn’t want, changing it takes under a minute. Here’s how on every major platform.

Windows 11

  1. Right-click an empty part of the desktop and choose Display settings.
  2. Scroll to Scale & layout.
  3. Set Display resolution to the one marked (Recommended) — this is your panel’s native resolution and will always look sharpest.
  4. Use Scale (e.g. 125%, 150%) to make everything larger without lowering resolution. This is usually what people actually want.

If the screen looks soft, you are almost certainly running below native resolution. Set it back to (Recommended).

macOS

  1. Open System Settings → Displays.
  2. Choose a layout under Resolution. The default is “Default for display”.
  3. Click Scaled and pick More Space (smaller UI, more room) or Larger Text (bigger UI).
  4. Hold Option while clicking Scaled to reveal the full list of resolutions if you need an exact one.

Macs describe scaling as “Looks like 1512 × 982” rather than exposing raw pixels — that “looks like” number is the logical resolution your browser will report.

Android

  1. Open Settings → Display.
  2. Tap Screen resolution (on phones that offer it, often Samsung and some others) and pick FHD+ or QHD+.
  3. No resolution option? Use Display size and text to scale the interface instead.

iPhone & iPad

iOS doesn’t expose a resolution setting — the panel always runs native. To change how big things appear:

  1. Settings → Display & Brightness → Display Zoom.
  2. Choose Larger Text / More Space (on supported models).

When it still looks wrong

  • Blurry text: you’re below native resolution — restore the recommended setting.
  • Everything tiny: keep native resolution but increase scaling, don’t lower resolution.
  • Wrong size after unplugging a monitor: reconnect, set resolution, then disconnect.

Not sure what you’re currently set to? Detect your resolution instantly and compare it to your display’s native spec.
